Teaching & Learning
Active, hands-on learning that nurtures curiosity, creativity and confidence.
Teaching and Learning
Aligned with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) and the Learning Outcomes Framework (LOF), our curriculum is designed to provide students with a holistic, engaging and future-oriented learning experience. We integrate core learning areas with cross-curricular themes to ensure that students not only acquire knowledge but also develop the skills, values and attitudes needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Learning is meaningful and relevant, with an emphasis on practical application, collaboration and real-life contexts that deepen understanding and encourage critical thinking.
At St Francis School Cospicua, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum that nurtures curiosity, creativity and confidence. Our academic programme supports both intellectual and personal growth, placing the learner at the centre of the educational process. The curriculum includes:
Core subjects such as Literacy, Numeracy and Science, which form the foundation of academic development.
Holistic development is fostered through subjects like Religion, Social Studies, Information Technology, Music, Physical Education (PE), and Personal, Social and Career Development (PSCD), which support emotional intelligence, ethical values, physical wellbeing and cultural appreciation.
Regular outings, themed days and enrichment activities such as hands-on experiments, field trips, guest speakers and project-based learning, which make learning interactive and memorable.
Inclusive support for all learners, including differentiated instruction, specialist support when needed and a nurturing environment where every child is encouraged to reach their potential at their own pace.
We strongly believe in active, hands-on learning, where students are engaged participants rather than passive recipients. Progress is celebrated at every stage, not only in terms of academic achievement but also in personal growth, effort and resilience. Through this approach, we aim to equip students with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to become lifelong learners and responsible, compassionate citizens.
Homework & Reading
Homework is assigned daily to reinforce classroom learning. It includes writing, reading, revision and sometimes long-term projects. Parents are encouraged to support their children by checking homework but allowing them to work independently. Reading is central to our literacy programme. Structured phonics, particularly in the early years, sets the foundation for fluent reading. Parents are guided in supporting reading at home, and one-to-one assistance is provided where needed.
Bookshelves outside each classroom offer access to teacher-curated reading materials, and children are encouraged to read during free time. Storytelling sessions, reading corners and events like World Book Day further nurture a love for reading.
A no-homework day was introduced last year to give students a chance to rest, recharge and spend quality time with their families.
