Complimentary Support
Targeted literacy support and in-class coaching that lifts every learner.
Complimentary Support
At our school, complimentary literacy lessons form an essential part of our inclusive educational approach, aimed at ensuring that all students receive the support they need to succeed. These lessons are primarily targeted towards students in Years 1, 2 and 3, who are identified by their class teachers as experiencing difficulties with reading. Early intervention at this stage is crucial, as it allows us to address specific learning challenges before they become more deeply rooted and affect overall academic progress.
By providing focused, small-group or one-to-one support, our complimentary teachers help these young learners build key literacy skills, boost their reading confidence and develop a more positive attitude towards learning. In the upper primary years, that is, in Years 4, 5, and 6, the role of our complementary teachers shifts to more in-class support. These teachers conduct weekly visits to classrooms, and after a thorough consultation with the class teacher, work alongside struggling students during writing tasks to offer guidance, encouragement and tailored assistance. This ongoing support ensures that students continue to grow in their literacy journey, helping them refine their writing skills, organise their thoughts effectively and express themselves more clearly.
Through this structured and responsive support system, we strive to meet each child’s individual learning needs, enabling them to reach their full potential.
