Assessment & Reporting
A balanced approach that informs, supports and empowers learning.
Assessment & Reporting
Assessment is a vital process that involves observing, recording and documenting the work students do and how they do it, serving as the foundation for informed educational decisions. At our school, we adopt a variety of assessment methods to capture each learner’s progress and potential. We place strong emphasis on formative and authentic assessment, which supports ongoing learning, while also incorporating summative assessment when necessary. All assessment is guided by the Learning Outcomes Framework (LoF), with children’s progress documented systematically on our school’s online platform, MySchool. Parents receive an official report twice a year via this platform, serving both as a summary of learning and for official record-keeping.
Learning is documented in multiple ways, including observations, anecdotal records, photographs, videos and samples of students’ work. We believe observation is one of the most effective tools for gaining insight into a child’s learning process, level of engagement, problem-solving and thinking skills, use of language, manipulative abilities, and interactions with peers and adults. Work samples and photographic evidence are often collected and compiled to reflect progress and to support future planning.
Educators use this documented evidence to interpret each student’s learning journey and to plan meaningful next steps. By reflecting on these observations, teachers can provide targeted resources and learning provocations tailored to the child’s needs. These detailed notes also serve as high-quality discussion points during meetings with parents or guardians, offering suggestions on how learning can be extended and supported at home.
Importantly, we believe that students should be active participants in the assessment process. Their thoughts, reflections, and opinions are valued and incorporated, helping them to take ownership of their learning. This approach ensures that assessment is not only informative but also empowering, guiding each student along a personalised path of growth and discovery.
